Work On Headliner 3 and Headliner 4 Is Underway

The Headliner 3 theme has proven to be one of our most consistent sellers over the last 12 months. And although it has seen a few minor tweaks in that time it has not seen a major update since it was first introduced. So I am now in the process of rewriting some of the code to add a little more flexibility to to the H3 theme. I am hoping that I will be able to make it easy for you to add links to both of the sidebars instead of just one sidebar. (I am pretty sure that I will be able to do this)

Also, I am working on a new theme that will be called Headliner 4 (H4 for short). It will not be a 3 column theme like H3, but it will emphasize a sophisticated navigation system that will allow you to "pile on the content". The H4 theme is coming along a little faster than I had anticipated so you might keep your eyes peeled for this theme within the next couple of weeks.

Introducing A Brand New Theme ... Merchant

I can not remember when I have been so excited about a new theme release. This theme is without question the most versatile theme in our entire theme store.
When designing this theme it was my intention to create a theme that would be capable of holding a lot of pages with a lot of content and still look good even with large websites. I also wanted a theme that would maintain its beauty even if the website was only a few pages.
I based the theme on our current website, but the consumer version is much more powerful. I have also added a few finer touches to this theme that I have not added to any of our other themes.

Things like:

Pre-Installed File Sharing icons to choose from
The ability to add categories above or below the sidebar content on a blog page
Neatly organized 1st, 2nd, & 3rd level Navigation variations

I do hope that you will consider adding this theme to your library. I feel that I can safely say that you will not be disappointed.

Theme Updates Finally Complete

Just want to let everyone know that the theme updates I spoke about in my previous post are now complete. All that is left to do is re-package them and upload them to our servers and send out updates. This process could take a little time so let me explain how things will work.

Because of the nature of this update and the fact that it effects every single person who has bought a theme from us in the last 2 years things will have to set up in a fashion that is orderly to me. After all of the themes have been re-packaged and uploaded to the servers I will begin sending out updates in phases.

Phase 1 will include those who have purchased the theme bundle (either the Complete Bundle, the RWT 3.6 Bundle, or the RWT 4.0 Bundle)

Phase 2 will include the following themes:

Theme Updates In Progress for ALL Of Our Themes

A few of our astute customers have pointed out that many of our themes would not validate at the W3C Validation site after they had built their site using one of our themes. Initially, I was very perplexed by this because we always validate both the master index.html file and all of the stylesheets before we release a theme. However, most all of the problems that people were having were coming from the colourtag.css stylesheet that the colour picker uses in RapidWeaver. This was able to slip by us because the only way to validate these styles sheets is AFTER they have been published. So after we had checked for validation of the main stylesheet we would build our demo site and publish without checking the colourtag.css stylesheet thinking that everything was fine.

After having had this pointed out to use we have decided to do 2 things:

1. We are going through each theme and correcting all of the colourtag.css stylesheets so that they will validate upon publishing. Once we get all of these corrected we will be sending out updates to everyone who has purchased a particular theme or bundle.

2. We have changed our workflow to accommodate an extra testing phase to hopefully avoid this from future theme releases.

I have to admit that this is just a little embarrassing to us, but we do intend on correcting all of the affected themes over the next couple of days. I already have 15 of them corrected and only around 13 to 14 left.

Enterprise Theme Is Now 4.0 (and 3.6) Ready

The Enterprise theme has been re-written from the ground up to take advantage of all of the features found in RapidWeaver 4.0 along with the latest plug-in updates. To simply say that this is an update would greatly understate things. The Enterprise theme uses none of the same code as the original yet maintains the same feel PLUS it has a ton of new features (variations) that the original dod not have.

Google Checkout Is Now A Payment Option

In our continued efforts to make purchases from RWT as comfortable as possible for everyone we had added the ability to pay with Google Checkout. Now when choosing the "Pay with E-junkie" button you will be presented with an option to pay with Paypal or with Google Checkout. (Click on the image to the left to see an example).

Shoppers now have the freedom to use esellerate, Paypal, or Google Checkout.

Brand New Theme Now Available

"Different, but not too different" that was the plan when designing the "Inspiration" theme. With literally hundreds of themes available for RapidWeaver these days it is becoming increasingly more difficult to build a theme that has not already been built. So with this theme I wanted to provide a look that was a little different from most of the themes out there but not so different that it would be difficult to use or understand.

We came up with the idea of having the top level navigation in the header ... vertical style. This meant that we would need to have a larger than normal header so we settled on 275 pixels tall.

We really hope you like this new theme from RWT. Please take a couple of minutes to navigate through the demo site to get a feel for how "Inspiration" will work.

Work is Progressing On A New Theme For RapidWeaver

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that June was going to be an extremely busy month here at RWT and it has definitely been busy. We have,

released 2 new themes

run a summer sales event

continued work on our image editing application "Webify"

helped in the progress of Supportcasts.com

Plus the unexpected event of moderating a funeral service for a friend whose wife passed away.

However, the lights have been burning later and early at the RWT office and we are glad to have another brand new theme for RapidWeaver nearly complete. I am not going to do into detail about the features of this theme just yet, but it will be something a little different that what we normally do.

Currently, I am running some tests and adding variations so I can not give an expected release date, but things are progressing well and it should not be much longer.

I recently did some print and web work for a client who wanted to use quite a lot of "earth tones". So over the next few weeks I presented him with several different color schemes until he finally decided on a set.

However, I found that I had quite a few gradients that did not get used in the project so I decided to whip up a series of buttons that can be used for the web.

They come as a free download without any restrictions. They measure 140 x 38, are in PNG format and come in two varieties, one with an outer glow applied and the other with an inner stroke applied.

16 colors in all PLUS the PSD file that I used to create them.

Snazzy Theme Update

The Snazzy Theme has now been updated. This update fixes the issue of the dividing lines in the toolbar extending into the content area. This problem was not noticed unless you changed the color of the content area to something other than white (#FFFFFF).

I am in the process of sending out updates now so if you do not get your update within a reasonable amount of time please drop me an e-mail and I will be happy to send you a new download link.

RapidWeaver 4.0 Goodness

You have probably already been made aware that Realmac Software has released RapidWeaver version 4.0 today. But just in case you were were not aware I would like to introduce you to what I believe is the best web development application that you will find.
While RapidWeaver has always been a user friendly application this particular version has raised the bar and I would even say set the standard. Even now I find myself tempering the urge to overstate the ease of use for fear of failing to emphasize the power of this application. RapidWeaver has developed into far more than just a "blogging" application. It is now a full fledged web development application capable of creating absolutely stunning websites.

RapidWeaver 4.0 is Leopard only so if you have Tiger then you should stick with version 3.6.

What Is A Pro Theme Developer?

What is a Pro Theme Developer?

With there being so many theme developers out there and literally hundreds of themes available for RapidWeaver and with there being a lot of claims as to having a new theme "that can cure cancer" you may have found yourself asking the question "What is a Pro theme developer?". Well, I would like to offer a few thoughts on what a Pro theme developer is ... or is not.

By using the word "Pro" one would naturally assume that the developer designs media (either in print or web form) on a professional level. By that I mean that they do this type of work as a means of supporting themselves or their families. It does not necessarily mean that the quality of their designs is superior to non-professionals it just means that this is the means they have chosen as a profession or a trade.

However, the word "Pro" also carries with it a certain connotation that the product will meet or exceed certain expectations and that the developer will conduct himself/herself in a professional manner. This is achieved in several ways but mainly in the following ways:

Treating each customer politely
Providing support for the product they produce
Providing other solutions when the previous one did not work
Providing honest answers instead of blowing a lot of smoke
Sometimes it may even mean "eating some crow" and saying "I am sorry" and offering a full refund

In short, a Pro theme developer will be one who values his customer base because he knows that they are the ones who keep him in business.

There are a number of Pro theme developers out there and if you can't find what you are looking for from one look for another, but you do not have to settle for being treated like a disease who is only good for $10-$15.

Work Continues On A Brand New Theme for RapidWeaver

It seems like it has been 3 or 4 months since our last blog update when in reality it has only been about 3 1/2 weeks. There has been quite a lot going on here at RWT headquarters along with the normal day to day e-mail and support issues I have also been doing quite a bit of beta testing for some upcoming software. Plus I have also been working on a couple of stand alone applications that you see soon. In the middle of all that I have also been working on a really cool new theme for the RapidWeaver community.

This theme will use a drop down menu that will be placed under the header and it will also have a pretty neat feature that I think will be very useful to a great number of you. Most all of the testing has been done and we are now in the phase of doing a demo site so you will want to check back pretty often to see the updated status on this new theme.
